It is an estimate built from the USCIS Policy Manual and the Code of Federal Regulations, applied to the dates you enter. It cannot account for facts about your specific case that aren't reducible to a date — a pending charge, a prior denial, a status question, or anything else a licensed attorney would ask about. For your specific situation, talk to an immigration attorney or accredited representative, or read the official instructions on uscis.gov.
Who actually decides whether you're eligible?
USCIS does, not this calculator. This tool applies the rules it has been given to the dates you enter; USCIS applies the same rules to the full record of your case, including facts this tool never sees. If the two disagree, USCIS's determination is the one that governs your filing.
How accurate is this calculator?
We built this from the current USCIS Policy Manual and cite the exact source for every rule on the how it works page, and we re-check those sources periodically. But immigration rules and fees change, this site is provided "as is" with no warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it, including a rejected filing or a missed deadline. Read the current rules directly on uscis.gov before you rely on any date for a real filing.
What cases does this calculator not cover?
This tool only covers the general naturalization path and the spouse-of-a-US-citizen path. It does not cover N-470 preserved residence, military service paths, VAWA or battered-spouse provisions, applicants under 18, removal orders, or good moral character determinations — see the how it works page for the full list. If your case touches any of these, do not rely on this calculator's output; go to USCIS directly.
